Business-interruption questions start with the way a business operates. A reader reviewing Carroll Insurance’s property-related services can prepare a recovery dependency map before asking which proposed provisions address the interruption concern.

Carroll advertises commercial-property insurance and discusses continuity of business operations. Read the source.

Map the dependency before asking about cover

List the facilities, equipment, people, utilities and outside services needed to operate. Identify the concern in concrete terms: what stops, which activity is affected and what information supports the recovery estimate? A planning estimate should remain labelled as an estimate, not a promised insurance recovery period.

Ask the adviser to connect each relevant concern to the proposed wording, including any conditions, time provisions or separate requirements. Do not assume that a property-policy heading answers every interruption question. Keep operational recovery planning and insurance interpretation in separate columns so each can be reviewed by the appropriate people.

Questions to record

  1. Which activity would be interrupted in the stated scenario?
  2. What dependencies and recovery assumptions are documented?
  3. Which proposed provisions address the question?
  4. What conditions or separate requirements remain unresolved?

Worked example

A retailer depends on a warehouse, an ordering platform and a supplier. It creates three dependency rows and asks which concerns are relevant to the proposed programme. An operational plan may address all three, while the insurance discussion needs its own wording-based answers. The map does not predict whether a particular loss would be covered.

What the worksheet establishes

Recovery planning becomes more useful when assumptions and contractual questions remain distinct. Trace each proposed answer to a defined scenario and an identified document.
